Current Legal Status of the Institution

At present ADRA PNG functions under the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Incorporation of ADRA as a seperate legal entity is still under negotiation.

Objectives

To promote and facilitate development relief activities on behalf of Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Division territories and elsewhere.

Brief History

ADRA PNG has been working in partnership with communities in PNG for over 15 years. It was first established in May 1991. Over this period ADRA staff and volunteers have a good understanding of community needs. The head office is based in Lae City, Morobe Province. ADRA PNG currently participates in 5 key program areas:

1. Water and Sanitation
2. HIV and AIDS
3. Adult Education
4. Economic Development
5. Disaster Response

microfinance
and financial inclusion

ADRA PNG through Small Enterprise Development Project is conducting training on savings, loaning, banking cottage, income generation and small business management training. The SED project has 423 direct beneficiaries and over 2100 secondary beneficiaries. Members open their bank accounts with ANZ once they have attended small business management training. They are taught on how to maintain their financial reports.

Main Challenges

1. Record keeping in terms of tracking loan from project beneficiaries
2. Changing the mentality of project beneficiaries from expecting hand-outs to being self-reliant.
