Overview

Following another successful Pacific Microfinance Week  in Nadi, Fiji in 2009, the Microfinance Pasifika Network is pleased to announce the 3rd Pacific Microfinance Week 2011 (PMW 2011) to be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from July 26 – 29th. PMW 2011 will be a week-long series of events, meetings and gatherings of a range of organisations and individuals which have an interest in promoting the provision of inclusive and sustainable financial services in the Pacific.

 Objectives:
  • Draw awareness to microfinance operations in the Pacific and raise the profile of Microfinance Pasifika Network to institutions external to the current stakeholder body;
  • To encourage partnerships and cooperation in the Pacific among microfinance stakeholders
  • To bring together all of the Microfinance Pasifika Network members for an opportunity to network;
  • Provide a platform for training workshops and presentations of ongoing work by the members and supporters;

Event Themes:

Discussions will focus around a Financial Inclusion theme and will look at issues such as;   

  • The Role of Microfinance in Achieving Financial Inclusion;
  • Savings and Inclusion;
  • Leveraging Technology to grow MF service delivery; 
  • Building Inclusive Financial Sectors:
  • The role of Central Banks;
  • Regulatory and Legislative Best Practices; 
  • Pacific Country Strategies,
  • Remittances and Entrepreneurship;
  • Commercialising MF;
  • Initiatives of Industry Key “Actors”;
  • Financial Literacy;
  • Viability/Sustainability (Self-Sufficiency) issues for MF;
  • Risk Management/Customer Protection/Governance issues for MFIs;
  • Credit Bureaus;
  • The role of Credit Unions;
  • Microfinance and Gender issues;
  • Lessons Learnt from the Region and Internationally.

Event Format:

A combination of training workshops, presentations, meetings, seminars and field visits.
