ANZ joins Pacific Microfinance Week 2011

Stephen Taylor, July 2011

14 July 2011

ANZ has this week joined the Foundation for Development Cooperation as a Silver Sponsor of Pacific Microfinance Week 2011.

After a successful Pacific Microfinance Week in Nadi, Fiji in 2009, the Microfinance Pasifika Network will host the 3rd Pacific Microfinance Week in Port Vila, Vanuatu from July 26th – 29th.

PMW 2011 will be a week-long series of events, meetings and gatherings of a range of organisations and individuals which have an interest in promoting the provision of inclusive and sustainable financial services in the Pacific.

This milestone event will bring together representatives from microfinance institutions, development partners, commercial and central banks, learning institutions, government agencies and private companies Pacific wide as well as further afield to discuss and share their achievements, visions and priorities in fostering the growth of microfinance and the development of the industry as a whole.

ANZ is committed to building financial capability and supporting rural development in the Pacific as part of ANZ’s global Corporate Responsibility framework. This has included the rollout of the successful financial literacy program ‘Money Minded Pacific’, which was launched in Fiji in early 2010.

‘It’s great to have the support of a large commercial bank such as ANZ for the conference’ said Foundation for Development Cooperation’s Michael Crowe. ‘The event will bring together leading experts from all over the world to share with participants from throughout the Pacific their years of knowledge and expertise in their respective fields.’

ANZ will be represented at the event by Baro Saumaki, ANZ Fiji, Head of Rural & Microfinance, who will present at the 12thplenary session, titled ‘The Role of commercial Banks in the Provision of Rural Financial Services’, together with ANZ Pacific South East, Head of Retail, Tait Jenkin, who will present at the 6th plenary session, titled ‘Focus on Vanuatu’.
