PROGRESS OUT OF POVERTY INDEX (PPI) IN USE BY SPBD FIJI

The Progress Out of Poverty Index (PPI) for Fiji is now finalized and available for use in Fiji. The full report and documentation of the PPI is available at the following link: www.microfinance.com/#Fiji. The Fiji National Financial Inclusion Taskforce (NFIT) also endorses the PPI for Fiji and the official launch workshop was in July.

SPBD Fiji intends to use this for all its clients so that it can:

  1. Measure objectively its outreach to households falling below the Fiji National Poverty Line
  2. Track the poverty level of its clients across time as they maintain their relationship with SPBD
  3. Measure how many SPBD clients, who fall below the national poverty line, are able to move above the poverty line

The PPI tool shall also be used in tandem with other social indicators, which SPBD Fiji intends to track, namely, the number of:

  1. School-aged children of SPBD clients who are in school
  2. Households of SPBD clients who have access to clean piped-in water
  3. SPBD clients generating additional jobs in the community through their micro-enterprises
